What is the best material for kitchen benchtops?

The best material depends on your lifestyle, budget, and style preferences.

  • Engineered stone is durable, low maintenance, and comes in a wide range of colours.

  • Granite offers a natural, one-of-a-kind look.

  • Porcelain and Dekton are ultra-durable and ideal for modern or outdoor kitchens.

  • Laminate (e.g., Formica) is a great cost-effective option for DIY and light-use spaces.

Will you help me choose what materials to use?

Yes, if you are unsure then we can help and guide you.

How much do kitchen benchtops cost?

Prices vary depending on the material and design complexity.

How long does installation take?

After templating (measuring), installation typically takes place within 3–7 business days. The actual installation is usually completed in 1 day, depending on project size.

Can you cut and install custom shapes or waterfall ends?

Yes! We offer custom fabrication including curved edges, mitred waterfall ends, under-mount sink cutouts, and more. Just let us know your design requirements.

What edge profiles are available?

Pencil Round is stsndard and cost effective but we offer a wide range of other edge profiles including Mitred Edge, Shark Nose, Bullnos, Bevel Edge etc.

Can you match the benchtop with splashbacks or cabinetry?

Yes. We offer matching stone splashbacks and can help you coordinate colours with your cabinetry, flooring, and hardware. Many clients choose full-height splashbacks for a seamless finish.

Do you provide services for commercial buildings?

Yes, we do any work related to stone fabrication for comercial and residential building.

Can I install a new benchtop over my existing one?

We do not recomend it but if that is your requirement then in some cases, yes—particularly with laminate or lightweight stone overlays. However, it depends on the condition, level, and material of your existing benchtop. Our team can assess your current surface and advise the best approach.

How do I clean my kitchen benchtop?

Use warm water with a mild detergent and a soft cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners, especially on laminate and engineered surfaces.

Can I use stone benchtops outside?

  • Dekton and Porcelain are ideal for outdoor use—they are UV and weather resistant.
  • Granite can be used outdoors if properly sealed.
  • Engineered stone and laminate are not recommended for outdoor applications due to potential fading and damage.

Will my benchtop have visible joins?

That depends on your layout, slab size, and material.

  • Engineered stone joins are neat and colour-matched.
  • Dekton & porcelain often allow for seamless looks with extra-large slabs.
  • Granite joins may be more noticeable due to natural variations.
We’ll always aim to position joins in the least visible areas possible.

What is the standard thickness of a kitchen benchtop?

Typical benchtop thicknesses:

  • Engineered Stone: 20mm, 30mm or mitred to 40mm+
  • Porcelain & Dekton: 6–20mm (can be mitred for thicker edge)
  • Granite: 20–30mm
  • Laminate/Formica: 28mm–38mm postformed
We can customise thickness to suit your kitchen style and appliances.

Is there a risk of staining or discolouration?

  • Granite, engineered stone, and Dekton are stain resistant when properly cared for.
  • Avoid placing oils, wine, or acidic substances directly on surfaces—especially on laminate and untreated granite.
  • Clean spills promptly to avoid long-term marks.

Can benchtops be installed around under-mount or flush-mount sinks?

Absolutely. We fabricate cutouts for all types of sinks including:

  • Under-mount

  • Engineered Stone, Porcelain & Dekton: No sealing required—they are non-porous.
  • Formica/Laminate: No sealing required.

Are stone benchtops heat and scratch resistant?

Yes. Engineered stone, granite, porcelain, and Dekton are all resistant to heat and scratches under normal use. However, we always recommend using cutting boards and trivets to prolong the life of your surface.

Do you provide a warranty?

Yes, we offer both manufacturer warranties (usually 10–25 years depending on material) and installation warranties (typically 12 months). We can explain warranty terms clearly before you place your order.
